Vintage Romance Styled Shoot | Skagit Valley Photographer

The 90-degree sun glared down as I exited my car and made my way down the pathway to the banks of the river just outside Wenatchee, Washington. As I passed sagebrush on either side, hauling my camera, lenses, and a paltry single bottle of water, a few other women joined me and we began talking excitedly about why we were there.

We were fellow photographers on a mission: to make new friends, yes. But we all shared a passion to improve our photography skills, build our businesses, and create beautiful imagery.

We spent hours together that day last July, photographing our models while we collaborated on posing and giving one another a turn to “get the shot.” To be honest, the heat almost did me in; I am definitely not used to the desert climate! (Thankfully, the organizers provided more water to drink . . . what was I thinking?)

I’m proud to say that, not only did I survive the shoot, I came away with some gorgeous images!

The day ended with the rays of the summer sun creating a gorgeous glow over the water, a photographer’s dream. When we could no longer shoot (due to exhaustion or lack of light or maybe both), we exchanged cards and said our good-byes. My spirit was glowing, too, as I trudged up the path to return to my car.

My trip over the mountains and through the woods (halfway across the state, to be exact), was well worth my time and effort.
