Vintage-Styled Portrait Session

I love creating vintage photo sessions for children! This beautiful vintage-style dress from Joyfolie was the perfect centerpiece for this styled session. Everything else in the session was built around the focal point of the dress: the fine art backdrop from Intuition Backgrounds, the hairstyle, props, and black hair ribbon as a finishing touch.

From there, my model and I simply created together using the various props on set. I am often asked what inspires me to create these type of portraits. I suppose it’s all about how movies, art, television, and interior decorating all have informed my aesthetic.

I remember watching the movie, Gone With The Wind as a young girl. Even though the story was far bigger and more complex than I could take in at that age, I fell in love with the architecture and, of course, the dresses (oh, and Rhett Butler, of course).

Later, I went through a period of enchantment with Victoriana and artists like Charles Burton Barber.

So, I guess it’s no surprise that as a photographer, I seek to create fine art portraiture that fills my heart with the romance and warmth of a bygone era.
